The Easy Tissue Paper Vase
First, picture this, a madwoman, hair a mess, opening cupboards frantically. Scanning, searching, with her eyes half crazy for something to put the amazing aromatic flowers that her husband just presented her with. The roses were a pale salmon color, very unusual for this time of year. It wasn’t her birthday or their anniversary. Every cabinet she opened, nothing. Behind the mixing bowls, nothing. He just stood there grinning like a puppy that had just retrieved his first ball. Just when she opened the last possible place a vase could be, there it was. It looked like a light from heaven was shining down upon it. She reached in, pulled it out, and set the only vase she had in the entire house on the counter.
As she lifted her beautiful delicate flowers to the vase something occurred to her. The vase was an awful red color. Ugh, with salmon-colored roses it was a nightmare. It looked like mother earth had just vomited up what was suppose to be a beautiful centerpiece. She just smiled and repeated graciously that they were perfect and that she loved the thought and gesture. Well, that part was true, the “just because” flowers were amazing and they would have been truly beautiful if the vase had not been frosted red glass. Where in the world did she ever get this ugly thing and why did she still have it?
The story, unfortunately, is mine. A personal tale of woe.
I made up my mind then and there that I was going to create a beautiful unusual vase that I could use with all types of flowers, herbs too if I was so inclined. I remembered a project back in my elementary school days that my second-grade teacher had planned for us to do for Mother’s day. We used tissue paper, a wine bottle, and glue to make a vase for our mothers.
It never struck me as odd that our teacher had enough wine bottles for the entire class, all twenty-three students. Though, that is a story for another time. I had always loved the vase that one of my classmates had made with multiple layers. Mine was severely lacking. Let’s just call a spade a spade. My wine bottle vase was just as ugly as the red monstrosity sitting before me. I had always wanted to make a vase, using that technique, that was striking and beautiful. A piece that was so pretty that I would not mind if it was left on the counter, thus the stunning blue vase was born.
Secondly, I must say that this is my first attempt at this project and I am more than happy that it turned out so well. I wanted to share this easy craft with you so you never have to experience the “ugh” from only owning an ugly vase.
For this project you will need:
Tissue Paper (in your favorite color)
Plain White Glue
1/4 Cup Warm Water
Brush
Acrylic Spray Gloss
Ribbon ( This is for your DIY: No-Fail Small Bow)
Jar (I used a sauce jar because I liked the shape)
Isopropyl Alcohol (optional)
Ultra Fine Glitter (optional)
Of course, I made a video tutorial for you. If you have any questions please leave a comment. Also, I would love to see a pic of your finished product.
Happy Crafting!
